Pub with a chequered history awaits its fate

Cremorne residents have been anxiously awaiting news about the Cherry Tree Hotel after the Balmain St building was put on the market with an asking price of $6.5 million. With its art deco facade, the pub may retain little of its original structure, but in its 166-year-old story it holds a rich history of the local area, and as one of the last watering holes in a rampantly developing area, it has become “the heart and soul” of the suburb, according to one local community leader.
